The project was completed in the scheduled eight months. We consulted the Conservation Officer about all work, particularly the replacement joinery & external materials and, to ensure the best result, encouraged all the craftsmen involved to give their input. Using several types of timber to match the original, the Ballroom floor was sympathetically restored whilst retaining the impression of wear & age. Moulds were taken from the original internal & external cornices to create new ones and help bring the ugly 1960s extension to the standard of the original building. The wiring & plumbing were completely renewed, including the installation of under-floor heating, and poor work by previous owners was altered to enhance the character of the property. The addition of the Orangery helped fulfil the client’s desire for an open, ‘through’ style to the main living area and achieve the required balance. |
